Feb 20, 9:30, Lisa

Hello Family and Friends,

We are so excited by Joe's progress tonight. I couldn't wait to tell you via my husband, Mark, who writes much better than me. Good news tonight:

fever is gone

the cat scan taken today looks good

he wrote with a marker

he put his arm around Ginny's waist and tried to pull her toward him

and . . .

the nurse came in and said "Hey, Dr. Leahy, I know you're so tired from all the work you've done today with PT, OT, and the nurses but can you wave to your family."

He promptly raised his arm and waved to us. I couldn't help but weep with joy. It was such a special moment as we were all in the room to see it--Ginny, her parents, my/Joe's parents, and me. We thank the Lord for this miraculous progress, and we thank all of you who are keeping Joe and our family in your prayers. Please keep praying for us and all the patients here are at Huntsville Hospital and especially keep praying for the families of Adriel Johnson, Gopi Padila, and Maria Davis who are grieving the loss of their loved ones.

I want to personally thank my family and friends and all the Jesuits at Creighton Prep and Creighton University who are praying for us in Omaha. I am especially grateful to my graduate students and colleagues who are covering my classes at the University of Nebraska at Omaha so that I can be here with Joe, Ginny, and family. Happy 4th year anniversary, Eric and Jillian, and hope your college interviews went well at SLU, Phil. Mark, thanks for holding down the fort in Omaha. Love you all, Mom/Lisa/Joe's sister.

  5. That is absolutely fantastic news! I hope all the news continues to be this positive! At this rate, Dr. Leahy very well could be my seminar teacher for my last semester at UAH (this fall)! I'm keeping my fingers crossed and praying for all of his family still at the hospital by his side! God bless you all!

What great News to receive about Joe. I was so happy to hear how much he has improved. When I see anyone at the condo complex, the first topic of conversion is Joe. He is in everyone's thoughts and prayers. We are praying for Joe and the entire family.

  17. Praise God! We are so glad to hear of Joe's progress! We check the blog daily and continue to pray for all of you, including the other victims and their families. Joe is also on the prayer chain at Trinity Lutheran Church in Circleville and today on my son's catechism sermon notes, he added a special prayer for Joe, a man he has never met, but one that he is yet so inspired by. Keep the good news coming!

    God Bless,

  18. Keep it up, Dr. Leahy!! You're doing fantastic work!

Between you and Stephanie, the hospital's got their hands full of incredible recoveries. Keep those little mitochondria workin'!

I'm eager to go back to class tomorrow, but I know it's going to be kind of hard to do. Remember that there are so many people who have pledged to work extra hard this term, adversity be damned! :)

    Charge On!

  19. That is incredible news about Dr. Leahy's progress. Dr. Leahy used to be my undergrad advisor at UAH in the late 90's. He has always been there for his students, and has gone that extra mile to help them out in any possible way. Thanks to all of you for this blog, as it helps to get a daily update on his health. He has constantly been in my prayers, and I am glad to hear that he is improving. Dr. Leahy, besides god, your wonderful, supportive, and encouraging family is the reason you will continue to show progress in the days to come. I shall wait for the day you will be out of that hospital so that I can meet the same Dr. Leahy I had seen 8 years ago.

  20. Lisa, Mark, Phil, Jackie, and all your family....I am sitting here trying to type through uncontrollable tears. The latest update is such remarkable, miraculous news and I cannot stop the tears from flowing. Even through all the tremendous stress and heartache and sleepless hours you are all enduring, we all appreciate your ongoing efforts to update the blog and to share Joe's progress. Hopefully the latest news is uplifting all of your spirits as much as all of us reading your blog. The prayer warriors here in C-ville (and across the globe from what I’m reading!) are not ceasing and we continue to lift you all up in our prayers and thoughts. Joe’s progress is a beautiful example of faith, perseverance and the power of prayer. Wishing you nothing less than ongoing, remarkable progress and Joe’s full recovery.
